The strawberries are here and they’re delicious! Keep in mind that if it rains they will become waterlogged, especially if it’s a heavy rain, so get yours during a nice dry spell. Here’s an easy way to hull them: Simply insert a straw through the top of the berry and the hull, or green crown — comes right off. Try it!

My daughter, Jamie, and I had a great adventure a few weeks ago when we went to see our friends Patti and Kenny Smith in North Carolina. From Kenny’s pontoon boat and Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s race shop, to Jamie and Cassie seeing Luke Bryan fall off stage directly in front of them, we all had the best time ever! Patti and Kenny and company send their love to everyone. Thanks, my friends, for a simply perfect time. We shall return!

The excitement is mounting as the school year comes to a close. Field Days at Riley Avenue Elementary School were successful and fun. The last few weeks will wrap up with the fourth-grade moving-up ceremony — a very emotional time for the students, teachers and parents. We wish you all the fun and success in the world!

I’m so sad to have lost three wonderful people recently: Mary Lewin, who was such a great friend and taught me how to can the best peaches; Peter Van de Wetering, who was a kind and gracious man who I had the privilege of working for many years ago; and Adolph Breitenbach, who loved reading my column down in Texas and kept in touch with me with pictures of his farm. God bless you and your families. You will be missed. Heaven has some awesome friends up there.

A very happy birthday to one of our Manorville girls, Patti Horton, who celebrated June 8. We all love you dearly, honey, and hope you had the best day. From all your family and friends, near and far, happy birthday, Patti.

A very happy Father’s Day to all the dads, poppies, grandpas and “dzogies.” Enjoy your day! Let’s pamper them; it’s so great to have them here with us. Enjoy!

Take care, be safe, and I will talk to you next time. Bye.
