Riverhead can now count Long Island’s “Finest and Bravest” runner among their own.

High School senior Travis Wooten was named this year’s winner Sunday afternoon by finishing best overall in a pair of runs honoring cops and firefighters, according to the Greater Long Island Running Club.

Travis finished fourth overall in the David Lerner Associates Long Island Police Appreciation Run and seventh overall in the FDNY Deputy Chief Ray Downey Forever Running 5K.

“This is a very important set of awards for both of our organizations,” said GLIRC director of development Sue Fitzpatrick. “Travis Wooten is both an outstanding athlete and an outstanding young man who has a great future in front of him, athletically and otherwise.”

Last October, Travis helped lead the Riverhead High School cross country team to their first league championship in 15 years. He will be attending Cortland State College this fall. He also ran on the winter and spring track teams for Riverhead.
