Elizabeth M. Simcik

Elizabeth M. “Betty” Simcik of Southold died Saturday, June 21, 2014. She was 91.

She was born Nov. 9, 1922, in Baiting Hollow to John and Mary (Columbus) Brezinski and was a graduate of the class of 1941 from Earl L. Vandermeulen High School in Port Jefferson.

Betty was a devoted homemaker and a health care provider and involved with the Mind Alert program at Katinka House in Mattituck, until the age of 85.

In her free time, she enjoyed cooking, baking and decorating cakes, embroidery and gardening. She was also an avid reader and will be remembered for skill in letter writing.

Predeceased by her husband, John B. Simcik in 1991 and by a granddaughter Jennifer Simcik in 1983, she leaves her children, Maryann (Robert) Boger of Southold, Rosemarie (Bernard) Ryba of Old Brookville and John R. (Robin) Simcik of East Marion; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. She was also predeceased by two brothers, Herbert Brezinski and Joseph Brezinski.

The family will receive visitors, Tuesday, June 24, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, June 25, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church in Cutchogue by Father Stan Wadowski. Interment will take place at Sacred Heart R.C. Cemetery in Cutchogue.
