Cops: Man beaten, robbed on Railroad Avenue sidewalk

Riverhead Town police are investigating an assault and robbery of a 49-year-old man that took place on Railroad Avenue at around midnight Sunday, according to a press release.

Three men exited a white four-door vehicle (newer model) and approached the victim who was standing on the sidewalk, police said.

When the victim attempted to walk away from the altercation, the group attacked him and stole his wallet, officials said.

The victim was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center and is expected to be transferred to Stony Brook Medical Center for treatment of internal injuries, police said.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed that incident to call police at 631-727-4500.
