A Riverhead man accused of swearing at police, exposing his genitals and resisting arrest at a local campsite this weekend is being held on $10,000 bail, according to town court documents.

Brian Bishop, 29, is also accused of keeping a loaded shotgun in his tent while drunk and taking care of a 3-year-old child, according to charges filed against him.

County parks police officers said Mr. Bishop was “continuously using obscene language” and waving his arms at officers at Indian Island County Park about 6:55 p.m. Saturday, according to the court documents.

The man is also accused of exposing himself and urinating on the campsite, according to the documents. When officers tried to arrest Mr. Bishop, he refused to put his arms behind his back and fought with police, the filings state.

Police searched Mr. Bishop’s campsite after he was arrested and allegedly discovered an unsecured and loaded shotgun in his tent. The court documents state that a 3-year-old child could have accessed the gun while Mr. Bishop was “in a highly intoxicated state.”

The man was charged with obstructing government administration, resisting arrest and endangering the welfare of a child, all misdemeanors, as well as given a violation citation for “obscene language and gestures.”

Mr. Bishop was arraigned in Riverhead Town court and held on bail. He is due back in court on Tuesday.
