Riverhead police are asking for the public’s help regarding a shooting on Segal Avenue this week that they say was retaliation for a previous gang-related shooting.

Around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said, a woman at 54 Segal Ave. told officers she had heard several gunshots. Soon after, authorities said, two people entered her home.

According to police, the woman said the unidentified subjects were shooting at her and others in the house. They then fled through a back window. No one was injured, authorities said.

The woman later discovered the house’s front window had been shot, police said.

Authorities said the shooting appears to be gang-related. They believe it was retaliation for a previous shooting they declined to identify.

Anyone with information about Tuesday’s shooting is asked to call Riverhead police at 727-4500, ext. 633.
