What was the best piece of advice ever given to you about working in the real estate industry?

Bagshaw: Get listings. The more listings you have the busier you will be.

Uhlinger: A friend and longtime broker told me three things: know the inventory, offer a level playing field to colleagues and be honest with clients.

Moore: During the dot-com boom, when I worked on Wall Street as a commercial real estate broker, a senior broker who was a colleague in his 70s and took a limo to work every day said to me, “I hope you’re saving your pennies for when the market dips.” I was a leasing broker for a prime Soho building and everyone was riding high. A couple of years later, 9/11 happened and the market crashed along with it. Fortunately, I had taken his advice and had put money away. Everything is cyclical in real estate and part of being successful is keeping an eye on trends and being prepared.
