Riverhead News: Beatles Tribute to play Suffolk Theater Sunday

Johnathan Muller & Monika Achtziger were married Aug. 15 in a beautiful ceremony on a Stony Brook beach by a justice of the peace. The day started with an overcast sky, but the sun shone just before the ceremony began. Best man Brian Grattan and maid of honor Malinda Bolton were witnesses to this special moment. Sheila Muller (mother of the groom), Carol and Ron Achtziger (the bride’s parents), brother Ronnie, grandmother Margaret and other family members enjoyed the special ambiance of the occasion.

 Afterward, a gathering was held at the Achtziger home with a buffet and lovely cake. Monika attends Molloy College to become a registered nurse and will finish her studies in May; Johnathan will finish radiology school at Peconic Bay Medical Center next August. Congratulations!.

Thelma Booker celebrates her 80th birthday Aug. 30. This year, as a special milestone, she spent 10 glorious days in Washington, D.C. (where she was born and raised), Maryland and Virginia. She visited son Tony and his wife, Anita, and grandchildren Sean and Shaye for a few days, then went off with two girlfriends from high school — a the threesome known as “Morning, Noon and Night.” Her friends had already celebrated their 80th and were so happy to see her. Thelma also visited another girlfriend, Reather, whom she’s known since age 12. She enjoyed a boat ride on the Potomac River, visited the Smithsonian, saw the Martin Luther King Jr. statue, and reminisced with girlfriends.

The Long Island Sound Chorus, a chapter of Sweet Adeline’s International, presents “Yesterday: A Beatles Tribute” Sunday, Sept. 28, at 3 p.m. at Riverhead’s Suffolk Theater with special guests the Rum Hill Rockers. Tickets are $20; call 727-4343 or visit suffolktheater.com. Doors open at 1:30 p.m.

Mike Pankowski, commander of Riverhead American Legion Post No. 273, invites the community to its 20th annual pig roast Saturday, Sept. 6, from 4 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $35 and include roasted pig, spare ribs, baked potatoes, corn on the cob, cucumber salad, desserts, tap beer and entertainment by the Mike Ryan and Friends Band. First Congregational Church in Riverhead will hold its annual card and game party from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6. Tickets, at $15, include a delicious homemade luncheon and a chinese auction of theme baskets. Call 369-7668.

Riverhead Free Library has copies available for its next prosperity and abundance book discussion series on Deepak Chopra’s “Creating Affluence: Wealth Consciousness in the Field of Possibilities. ” The discussion takes place Friday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m. at Diliberto Winery in Jamesport, where you’re invited to purchase homemade pizza and beverages at 6 p.m. Register in person, call 727-3228 or visit riverheadlibrary.org.

Living Water Church in Riverhead will host a free family fun day Monday, Sept. 1, from 1 to 5 p.m. There will be music, food and activities including a pie, ball and ring toss, bingo and face painting.

Belated happy 80th birthday to Mary Ignasiak Aug. 5. She spent a blessed day at the Bouchards for a barbecue surrounded by loved ones. Here’s to many, many more with lots of love from Gil, Barbara, Merry and Tine.
