Cops: Victim doesn’t press charges after robbers return $100

A man who was robbed near the Riverhead train station has decided not to press charges after the suspects agreed to return his money, according to a Riverhead Town police press release.

Shortly before 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, a 36-year-old man and his 15-year-old son were approached by a man who asked for money, police said.

After the victim refused, the suspect “demanded money” and threatened to shoot the victim if he didn’t cooperate, officials said.

The victim gave the suspect $100 after his son pleaded with him to give the robber money, police said.

The suspect then fled in a “Honda bearing a Texas vehicle registration,” police said. Police later located the vehicle and two suspects ages 40 and 24 that were involved in the incident, police said.

Police didn’t locate a weapon during the investigation and found the suspects were “in possession of numerous Samsung cell phones that appeared to be counterfeit,” officials said.

After the suspects were identified, the victim “refused to pursue charges and requested the subjects return his money,” police said.

When the victim’s money was returned, police said the suspects were released and the phones were “confiscated pending further investigation.”
