Art Beat: ‘East End Images’ on display at Floyd Memorial Library

• Work by Nancy Ness, Joan Stevens, Helen M. Weinstein and Amy Worth can be seen Sept. 6 to 29 in a show titled “Four Women” at The South Street Gallery in Greenport.

Ms. Ness paints local landscapes in pastels and oils; Ms. Stevens works in plein air oils and figure studies; Ms. Weinstein creates abstract oils; and Ms. Worth uses thick paint and a palette knife for her landscapes and still-lifes.

A reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6.

• The East End Photographers Group will present an exhibit of “East End Images” from Sept. 6 to Oct. 12 at Floyd Memorial Library in Greenport. The show, featuring traditional, digital and alternative photographic processes, celebrates the “vistas, seascapes, farmlands and abstract images of the South and North forks,” a press release says.

A reception is set for Sunday, Sept. 7, from 2 to 4 p.m.

Participating photographers are Berges Alvarez, Michele Dragonetti, Scott Farrell, Alex Ferrone, Gerry Giliberti, Pamela Greinke, George Mallis, Michael McLaughlin, Dave Nadal, Ron Nicoletta, Jim Sabiston, Jim Slezak and Mary Trentalange.

• Old Town Arts and Crafts Guild in Cutchogue will hold a reception for Artist of the Month Marion Vaccaro Wipf from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6. Ms. Wipf paints “what she sees around her: the flowers, the landscapes, the water,” according to a press release. Her work will be shown through September.

• Images by Michael Edelson and Ann Brandeis will be featured in “Bare,” an exhibit opening Sept. 6 at Alex Ferrone Photography Gallery in Cutchogue. A portion of proceeds from sales will be donated to The Retreat Domestic Violence Services. The show runs through Oct. 12.

An opening reception will be held Saturday, Sept. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Mr. Edelson’s series “The Bedroom Has Its Secrets,” based on the Edna St. Vincent Millay poem “What Lips My Lips Have Kissed,” was photographed in the former Victorian Lady bed-and-breakfast in Greenport.

Ms. Brandeis “looks for signs and elements that visually describe or capture our memories — personal moments in time that remind us of our past, sustain us through our present and guide our future.”

Mr. Edelson and Ms. Brandeis will give a gallery talk at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28.

• Work by Shelter Island photographer Virginia Khuri will be on view Sept. 8 to Dec. 6 at Riverhead Town Hall in an exhibit co-sponsored by East End Arts and Riverhead Town. The exhibit is titled “The Arrival of Spring in Mashomack.”

Ms. Khuri is a fellow of the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain. A press release says, “She uses her camera not to document the world before her lens, but to convey something of the quality of her particular individual experience of it.”
