Riverhead Town police are seeking the public’s help in investigating reports of gunfire on Doctors Path Thursday afternoon.

Police responded to 519 Doctors Path about 1:41 p.m. after receiving word of a fight and gunfire in the area, according to a report.

By the time police arrived, everyone had fled the area, though a vehicle at the scene had apparent damage from gunfire, authorities said.

A man who lives at the home — and did not give a name — said he was working on a car in the driveway with another man when a car pulled up, parking across the street.

“I didn’t know they were coming over. One of them got out of the car and walked toward the other guy [working on the car],” he said. “He shot three or four times at the ground, then shot at him.”

He said the shot took out the back window of the car, however no one was hurt.

The man said his sister-in-law and her friend were also home at the time. The home belongs to his mother.

The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with information to contact the Riverhead Police Department at 727-4500. No arrests have been made.
