Calverton News: ‘Wines and Canines’ set for Sunday

Brrr! I actually wore shoes Sunday morning. That didn’t last long, but it was chilly!

Get ready for lots of orange as the arrival of pumpkins is right around the corner. Good luck, everyone!

Congrats to River Road newlyweds Miesje Renier and Dylan Governale, who were married Aug. 8. Over 100 guests attended the beautiful ceremony and witnessed the couple literally tie the knot — using rope. What an awesome idea! Their beloved mentor, Riverhead High School Latin teacher Doc Greenberger, performed the service at the West Sayville Country Club. I had the pleasure of catching up with Miesje’s mom, a former Calverton postmaster, at the farm. Congratulations to the beautiful couple!

Don’t forget Kent Animal Shelter’s “Wines and Canines” run/walk this Sunday, Sept. 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard. It’ll be so much fun! The event will feature auction prizes, a raffle, wine and food sales, a pet boutique, and pets for adoption. The entry fee is $30; children under 12 are free. Help raise money for our little friends. Call 727-5731 for more information.

Dennis Herman, a great friend to Kent, organized a doubles tennis tournament over Labor Day weekend and raised $4,200 for the shelter. Many thanks to you, Dennis. It is very much appreciated!

My friend Carol Niewadomski is a grandma! Her grandson, Mason Edward Niewadomski, was born Aug. 31 at 12:10 p.m. weighing 5 pounds, 14 ounces and measuring 20 inches long. He is adorable! His proud mom and dad, Jimmy and Laura, are thrilled and are doing a great job as new parents. Congratulations, everyone!

Happy birthday to Calverton resident Paul Ceberek, who celebrated Sept. 11, with tons of love from your babies, your wife, Noelle, and all your buddies. We hope you had a great day, Paul.

Bonnie Cheshire and family made their annual trek to Long Island recently. I’ll tell you all about their adventures next time.

Goodbye, Alex Horton. You will be so missed. My love to your awesome family. I love each and every one of you. God bless.

Be safe, take care, and I will talk to you next time. Bye.
