A 51-year-old Riverside man arrested earlier this year on drug charges was taken into custody Sunday after he allegedly choked another person during a dispute, according to a state police news release.

Garland Massenburg was charged with assault and criminal obstruction of breathing, both misdemeanors, state troopers said. He was arraigned in Southampton Town court and held in county jail on $10,000 bail, police said.

Police did not disclose additional information about the incident.

Mr. Massenburg had previously been charged with misdemeanor drugs possession and a violation for marijuana possession after a traffic stop in March. In 2011, Mr. Massenburg was accused of attacking a man during a robbery in Riverside; he pleaded guilty to that charge and received a nine-month sentence.
