Calverton News: Wines and Canines run raises $23K

What a beautiful weekend! I hope you were able to get outside and enjoy it. It just doesn’t feel quite like pumpkin season yet.

Manorville resident Dan Hulse married Zoe Della-Rocca from England on Sept. 9 at McCabe’s Beach in Southold. What a few fun weeks it was! Zoe’s mom and dad traveled from England and stayed with Dan’s mom and dad, Sue and Sandy Hulse. They all got along fabulously. They enjoyed a high tea, a barbecue, and endless trips here and there. Also, good-byes were said to new friends Heather and Ray Betts, with promises to visit soon. Dan and Zoe reside in Oregon. Congratulations!

Kent Animal Shelter’s Wines and Canines run/walk event for homeless pets was a huge success. A total of $23,000 was raised for the shelter! Many of the alumni or past rescue dogs were present. I was told it was touching to see them so happy with their new families. That, my friends, is what it’s all about. Adopt a pet — they need us.

Congratulations to Riverhead High School’s varsity football team on another win this past weekend. This is their 100th win under coaches Shay, Gevinski, Hackal and Hedges, who have coached 17 years together. Great job, guys! Go Blue Waves!

On Saturday, Oct. 4, at noon the Class of 2015 will hold a “powder puff” football tournament fundraiser at the Mike McKillop Football Field. Girls in the junior and senior classes will play flag football as the boys cheer them on. The community is also invited to watch. The entry fee is $15 and includes a T-shirt. Go have some fun!

Happy 40th wedding anniversary to Carol and Jan Niewadomski. These two friends of mine have recently become grandparents and are loving every moment with little Mason. From Mason, Laura and Jimmy, and all your family and friends, hope you have a great day. Congratulations!

My Robbie and Jaime celebrate their 6th wedding anniversary Oct. 11. Congratulations from your two beautiful babies, Julia and Aiden, and all of us. We love and wish you a perfect day together!

Happy birthday to my mom, who celebrates Oct. 5. I hope you have a warm, sunny day.

Please don’t carve your pumpkins yet. They’ll rot very quickly, especially during these warm days. Be patient and enjoy looking at them for a bit.

Take care, be safe and I shall talk to you next time. Bye.
