Art Beat: Sayville artist’s work on display at Gallery Crossing

• Work by Sayville artist Sharon Way-Howard can be seen from Oct. 9, through Oct. 20 at Gallery Crossing in Peconic. 

Ms. Way-Howard works in oils, watercolors, pastels and acrylics; she’s also a printmaker. Her imagery “revolves around landscape, the animal world, botanicals and man-made objects placed in landscape or set as still life in domestic environments,” according to a press release. She “relies on either representational or realistic painting style to establish a particular mood or point of view.” 

An artist’s reception will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11.

• Margie Bowen of East Quogue is Old Town Arts and Crafts Guild’s artist of the month for October. Her work can be seen at the Cutchogue guild through the end of the month. An artist’s reception is set for 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10.

Ms. Bowen primarily paints landscapes in pastel and oil, often en plein air.

• A reception for local artist Lee Harned was held Friday, Oct. 10, at Mattituck-Laurel Library, where her exhibit of recent works, “New Beginnings,” is on view during October.

• Work by Greenport-based Hector deCordova is featured in an exhibition at Roosevelt Field that runs through Oct. 26. The Hispanic Month Exhibition, part of Arts Alive LI’s Arts Month, a celebration of cultural events taking place on the island, is sponsored by the Long Island Arts Alliance and Bethpage Federal Credit Union. The Hispanic exhibit features works by 12 Long Island artists, including Mr. deCordova.

• Plein Air Peconic, a group of East End painters and photographers, will present “Land, Sea, Sky” from Oct. 11 to 13 at Ashawagh Hall in East Hampton. An artists’s reception will be held Saturday, Oct. 11, from 5 to 8 p.m.

The featured artists are painters Casey Chalem Anderson, Susan D’Alessio, Aubrey Grainger, Anita Kusick, Keith Mantell, Michele Margit and Joanne Rosko and photographers Tom Steele and Kathryn Szoka, with guest artists Gail Kern and Ty Stroudsburg.

Plein Air Peconic works in collaboration with Peconic Land Trust in order to bring attention to land conservation efforts on the East End.
