About 116 customers are without power Thursday morning as a storm with wind gusts of up to 41 mph swept across the East End overnight, according to the National Weather Service and power authorities.

A PSEG outage map shows 112 of those outages are in Riverhead around Roanoke Avenue; the power company has not provided an update on how soon service is expected to be restored, though a work crew has been assigned to the area.

A smattering of small outages have also affected other parts of Riverhead, as well as Northville and Wading River, according to the data.

More than 1,800 customers in total have lost power across Suffolk County, according to PSEG.

Riverhead Town Highway Superintendent George “Gio” Woodson said the overnight storm only knocked down about four or five trees Thursday morning.

“It wasn’t that bad,” he said. “We just try to deal to deal with Mother Nature”

Mr. Woodson said the Highway Department has been “aggressive” in cutting down trees that could potentially tip over in storms. Last night’s high winds combined with a day of rain, loosened the soil enough to take a few trees down, he said.

Trees had fallen across Ostrander Avenue, Church Lane and Phillips Avenue, he said, but all three roads were now cleared.

Meteorologists with the National Weather Service said the East End will see a “brief respite” in the rain this morning, with stormy conditions returning by late morning and into the early afternoon. The wind and rain is expected to taper off by Friday morning.
