Wading River News: Art exhibition held at St. John the Baptist Church

Last night at the church where I am a cantor, I was honored when my priest asked me to sing a song to the veterans who served our country. I sang “America the Beautiful.” It is the veterans who have made this country great, fighting on land and sea and in the air to protect our freedom. I salute all veterans, now and always.

My next column, for the Nov. 27 issue, has an early deadline. If you have any announcements/news updates to share please get them to me by Thursday, Nov. 20.

An art exhibition was held last Saturday evening at St. John the Baptist Church in Wading River. Hundreds attended and studied the works of many renowned painters, sculptors and photographers from North Shore Art Guild. Over 60 artists contributed to the wealth of samples for onlookers to enjoy, many with very impressive credentials of art education, instruction, exhibition experience and awards. Cathy Connor presented two pieces: “Bahama Breeze” and “Harbor Watch” (both photo/wood); Mac Titmus displayed “digital fusion” photography — “Autumn in Miller Place” and “etude en jaune”; Elizabeth Malunowicz had three pieces — “Angel of Mercy,” “Veiled Love” (diptych) and “Veiled Grace.” Anna Jurinich also had works on display — “Deliver Us From Evil” (acrylic/india ink on paper) and “Vivaldi’s Trumpet Concerto on an Easter Morning.” It was invigorating to see so many people enjoying the talents of these North Shore artists and the church was the perfect venue. Congratulations to St. John the Baptist. This was the third art exhibition they have hosted.

Shoreham resident Kevin Wood has been instrumental in promoting singer/songwriter Leah Laurenti, who has performed frequently at Oceans 5 in the Shoreham Plaza. To promote her new CD, a release party was held Nov. 7 at Napper Tandy’s in Smithtown. The event was streamed live  and Leah performed original songs with her band, including her recent singles “Backin’ Down” and “Mistakes.” All admission proceeds were donated to the Wounded Warrior Project. Have a great two weeks! We’ll catch up here in this space really soon.
