Riverhead senior Mark Andrejack, a midfielder on the Blue Waves’ lacrosse team, will continue his athletic career at Adelphi University next year.

Andrejack, a face-off specialist, received an academic/athletic scholarship to attend Adelphi, a Division II school in Garden City. The Panthers are a perennially strong program, which last year reached the semifinals of the NCAA Division II Tournament.

“I’m really excited to be playing for Adelphi,” said Andrejack, who is National Honor Society member with a 91.77 GPA. “The academics there are good and the campus is great.”

Andrejack’s father, John, said the Adelphi coaches noticed Mark during a showcase tournament.

“He had a right to be proud of being a standout in lacrosse,” John Andrejack said.

Mark is coming off a terrific season on the football team. He was a wide receive and defensive back.

“I’ve been waiting for this day for a long time,” said Riverhead lacrosse coach Vic Guadagnino. “Mark got hurt in the first few minutes of his first game with the team, so I am happy that he is healthy and signing today to play college lacrosse.”

Mark’s older brother John, a 2008 graduate, played college lacrosse at Wagner College.
