The 7-Eleven built in Flanders last spring is scheduled to open on Dec. 17, a spokeswoman for the convenience store chain has confirmed.

“It’s done, but we are waiting for sign permits before we can open,” said Margaret Chabris, 7-Eleven’s director of corporate communications, about the store located near the Flanders Road and Cypress Avenue intersection.

Once opened, it will become the fourth 7-Eleven store located within the 11901 zip code. Along Route 58 in Riverhead Town, stores are located near the Roanoke Avenue traffic circle, Department of Motor Vehicles, and Tanger Outlets.

The Flanders location had received site plan approval as a convenience store from the Southampton Town Planning Board in 2011 when it was under previous owner Bryan Whalen.

More business news:

Mr. Whalen, a real estate agent and developer, had told the Flanders, Riverside and Northampton Community Association in 2009 that he intended to run the convenience store himself. FRNCA at that time had come out in opposition to that proposal.

The land consists of two parcels totaling 0.78 of an acre. It was sold for $740,000 in 2013 to Flanders Holding, LLC, which is headed by Dave Dombroski of Southlake, Texas.

Some Flanders residents had voiced their opposition to the store earlier this year after construction was approved and well underway.

The entrance to the new store will be located on Flanders Road. The site also has an entrance for deliveries on Cypress Avenue, Southampton Town principal planner Clare Vail said.

There is no traffic signal planned at the intersection, but the state Department of Transportation is planning to install a traffic signal at the next intersection to the east of the store near Flanders Road and Oak Avenue.

To the west of the store near the intersection of Flanders Road and Glider Avenue, a 6,000-square-foot building has been proposed featuring a Subway sandwich shop, a pizzeria and two retail stores.
