Wading River News: Make a donation, get a free T-shirt

Now I know how the chicken in my freezer feels. Mama, is it cold out there!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Enjoy every morsel of food and every sip of a drink.

Shoreham-Wading River High School graduate Kiran Malhotra, who went from working at Shoreham Wines and Spirits to being its owner, has had another great idea. When you enter the store you’ll see a donation jar for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Anyone who contributes $5 to the foundation will get a free T-shirt designed by Kiran. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to Make-A-Wish Foundation of Suffolk County. Kiran also donates a scholarship to the high school, given to a promising youth of his choosing. By the way, if you have a patch to donate that represents your fire company, Kiran will put it on the wall at his shop. Also, if you are/were in the military, give him your picture and it, too, will be put on the wall of honor.

If you are an alumni of SWR High School, you may have crossed paths with Marty Stromsten, who started the SWR Community Band. Marty has recently formed the Island Jazz Express and Cornet and Company. Last spring, Marty stepped down as music director because it was time for a change, but he states that the group is “fortunate to have secured the services of a very qualified musician as the new music director, David Brandenburg.” We certainly wish Marty all the luck in the world in his endeavors and we wish David the best of luck in all his future performances.

Island Jazz Express will host a free concert Friday, Dec. 19, at 7 p.m. at Wading River Congregational Church. Marty says all will be delighted with the presentation. In parting, Marty said, “I have enjoyed working with this fine group.” He hopes everyone will continue to support IJE.
