Man slashed during scuffle outside Tanger store

An 18-year-old man received cuts to his face and abdomen during an overnight scuffle Friday at Tanger Outlets, Riverhead Town police said in a press release.

Police were responding to a report of a fight “between several subjects” outside the Lids store at Tanger II shortly before 2 a.m. when they discovered the injured man, who was taken by ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center. The man’s wounds were caused by a “cutting instrument,” police said.

The altercation is believed to be related to a prior incident that occurred outside the Riverhead area, police said.

“The incident does not appear to have anything to do with the Tanger Outlets other than the fact that the subjects involved happened upon each other at that location,” the release states.

Police say they are still investigating the incident and that no arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to call 631-727-4500, ext. 328.
