It was another banner year for track and field stars for Shoreham-Wading River, Riverhead and McGann-Mercy.

The Wildcats boasted a deep team that in the outdoor season finished second in the Division III Championship, behind Port Jefferson. Ryan Udvadia, who finished his career as one of the top distance runners in program history, won three individual events in the championship — the 800, 1,600 and 3,200.

Udvadia was a state qualifier in two events and teammate Keith Steinbrecher was a state qualifier in the 3,000 steeplechase. Steinbrecher ran a personal-best time of 9:30.28 at the outdoor state qualifier meet. Jordan Wright was a standout for SWR in the sprints.

Riverhead had its own success at divisions, including a second-place finish in the shot put by Ethan Greenidge and a second-place finish by Marcus Moore in the triple jump. On the girls’ side, Madison Blom qualified for states in the shot put for Riverhead and Mercy had several state qualifiers during the ourdoor season with Meg Tuthill, Danisha Carter and Delina Auciello in individual events.
