Staff picks: Our favorite stories of 2014

Laura Huber, editorial assistant: “I loved reading about Brandon Boardman and how the story connected the details many of us miss about people living with Asperger’s. I think it’s good for kids to see positive stories about young people in our community.”

Vera Chinese, northforker editor: “I like how local historians have pieced together an account of the battle to save the Cutter Eagle by using tales from a variety of unreliable narrators. That story brought a little known but important piece of Riverhead history to life for me.”
Andrew Olsen, publisher: “Having spent many hours on the baseball and softball fields with my kids, my favorite story was Shoreham-Wading River freshman pitcher Brian Morrell beginning his varsity career by throwing back-to-back no-hitters.”
Rachel Young, staff writer: “Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, the Shoreham-Wading River football team endured the pain of Tom Cutinella’s untimely death to win the Long Island championship. An incredible story.”
