Flanders News: Events at David Crohan Community Center

Happy December, friends and neighbors. I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving. I did. We celebrated it at my house and everything was delicious. Lots of fun was had by all. Now that Thanksgiving is over and it’s December, I’m feeling a little overwhelmed. This year surely went fast. I can’t believe my baby girl is almost done with her first semester at college. I can’t wait to pick her up Dec. 15. Eleven more days and she’ll be home for over a month. Yay!

Some events going on during December at the Flanders Senior Center/David Crohan Community Center include: line dancing, Mondays at 1 p.m.; drawing class, Tuesdays at 10 a.m.; shell painting, Thursdays at 10 a.m.; nutrition discussion, Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.; line dancing, Fridays at 10:30 a.m.; and horse racing, Wednesday, Dec. 17, at 10 a.m. The center will also celebrate its December birthday party and holiday party Friday, Dec. 19, starting at 10 a.m. Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m., with music by Tom Parris. A Christmas boutique will be held Monday through Friday, Dec. 1 to 12, from 9 a.m. to noon., when holiday decorations and gifts will be available for purchase. The movie “Holiday Inn” will be shown Dec. 11 at 12:45 p.m. For more information, call 702-2375. Transportation is available.

I would like to send a huge thank you to everyone who donated food to the Allied Feeds Long Island food drive, which was held at Peconic Pediatrics in Riverhead, where I work. The office collected over 120 pounds of food, which was then donated to Island Harvest. In total, Allied Physicians Group donated more than 1,200 pounds of food to Island Harvest.

Happy birthday to Brandon Spellman on Dec. 5; Trisha Fragnito, Dec. 10; former Southampton Town supervisor Patrick “Skip” Heaney, Dec. 12; Cindy Barrow (the hardest-working Mary Kay consultant I know), Dec. 13; and Rich Freeborn, Dec. 17. I hope everyone enjoys their special day doing whatever it is that makes them happy!

Good news! I’ll have an extra column this month. My next one will appear Dec. 18 and then again on Dec. 25. After Christmas my column won’t appear again until Jan. 22, 2015. If you have any birthdays, anniversaries or other events you’d like to share with the community, please call or email me as soon as possible. Thanks for reading! Please be safe and don’t text while driving.
