Edward E. Crohan Sr.

Edward E. Crohan Sr. of Flanders died Jan. 5. He was 78. 

He was born Feb. 1, 1936, and was the oldest son of Ida and Edward F. Crohan.

Known as “Sonny” to friends and family, Ed was a renowned horseman, avid horseback rider and horse trainer on the East End. He was known for his bird carvings and panting. Ed enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating.

Ed served in the U.S. Army as a reservist, was a past member of Flanders Fire Department and a member of Riverhead Masonic Lodge. He retired after working for New York Telephone Company.

Predeceased by his wife of over 50 years, Frances (Martin) Crohan; his granddaughter, Stephanie Tooker and brother, David W. Crohan; Ed is survived by his children, Cynthia Tooker, Cheryl Simons, Lori Visone, Edward Jr. and Dawn Dawson; his grandchildren, Mark, Samantha, Nicole, Tyler, Matthew, Liam and Quinn; and his great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Ryan.

The family will receive visitors Wednesday, Jan. 7, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home Thursday, Jan. 8, at 9:30 a.m. for a 10 a.m. funeral service.
