Calverton News: ‘Happy Neuter Year!’

I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays. My family had a great time this Christmas; the little ones entertained us quite nicely. Children have an uncanny ability of making everything more cheerful. I guess seeing things through their eyes brings us back to when we were that age. It’s awesome!

Kent Animal Shelter in Calverton would like to say “Happy Neuter Year!” Once again, Kent will be hosting an awesome event that will help us all. For only $20 you can have your male dog or cat neutered. United Pet Charities is once again helping Kent to get our pets fixed before any unwanted litters. Did you know you can have your pet fixed as young as eight to 10 weeks? You can, and the sooner the better. Appointments can be made by calling Kent at 727-7797. You must mention Happy Neuter Year. This offer is good through January. You can also visit kentanimalshelter.com to see all the new best friends just waiting to meet you.

The Riverhead High School ROTC drill team recently placed third overall at a drill competition held Dec. 20. Eleven units (more than 450 cadets) participated. Great job, everyone! The drill team will be hosting a pancake breakfast fundraiser on Jan. 24 at Applebee’s. Tickets are $10 and are being sold by the cadets. No tickets will be sold at the door. The Navy Ball will be held Friday, Jan. 30, at Giorgio’s. I cannot imagine how amazing that will be. Have fun!

If you didn’t have the opportunity to see “Godspell,” performed by the Riverhead Faculty and Community Theater last November, do I have great news for you! They will be putting on two more performances, Saturday, Feb. 7, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 8, at 2:30 p.m., at North Shore United Methodist Church in Wading River. This really is a great show that will make you not only smile but also wipe away some tears. It’s awesome. The show is a benefit for the church, which is currently constructing the Good Samaritan House thrift store and soup kitchen. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students and seniors. Call Laura at 631-513-2843. Enjoy!

I hope we get the snow I need soon. In my opinion it should never rain after mid-November. May 2015 be a good year — full of promise, dreams coming true, and a really great Super Bowl!

Till next time, take care, be safe and I shall talk to you soon. Bye.
