Helene Elizabeth Makowski died unexpectedly Jan. 15. She was 86.
She was born April 27, 1928, in Riverhead to Stephanie and Benjamin Grodski and made her home in Wading River, and Pittstown, N.J., before moving to West Melbourne, Fla., in 1993.
Family members said Ms. Makowski was a devoted, wife, mother, “Bopchie” and homemaker with a witty sense of humor. She was an artist who enjoyed cooking, gardening, crossword puzzles, crafts, Frank Sinatra, swimming in L.I. Sound and the New York Mets.
Ms. Makowski is survived by her husband of 56 years, Walter; two daughters, Dianne and Adrienne; two grandsons; one great-granddaughter; her sisters Florence Jackson and Dorothy Sousa; and her brother William Grodski. She was predeceased by five brothers and three sisters.
A memorial service for Ms. Makowski was held Jan. 23 at Ammen Family Cremation and Funeral Care in Melbourne, Fla. Interment will take place at Calverton National Cemetery at a future date.
