Joseph A. Mocniak

Joseph A. Mocniak of Calverton died Feb. 9 at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset after a long illness. He was 77. 

He was born March 3, 1937, in Greensboro, Pa. to Blanche (Torarsky) and August Mocniak.

Mr. Mocniak served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962. He was a vice president of Citibank in New York City.

Locally, Mr. Mocniak served in the Knights of Columbus in the 4th degree, the Patriotic Degree of the Order. He was also an usher for St. Isidore R.C. Church in Riverhead.

Family members said he enjoyed reading.

He is survived by his wife, Ursula (née Karutz) of Calverton; his sons, Joseph Jr., of Massapequa and Christian of Holbrook; his daughter, Uta Field of South Setauket; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors Thursday, Feb. 12, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 13, at St. Isidore R.C. Church. Interment will take place at Calverton National Cemetery.
