Longtime Riverhead resident Howard W. Darrow died Feb. 24 at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. He was 88.
He was born Aug. 11, 1926, in East Moriches to Charlotte (Carter) and Hudson Darrow and graduated from Moriches High School.
Mr. Darrow served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946, achieving the rank of gunner’s mate third class.
Family members said he loved being a mason and worked for Darrow Mason for over 60 years. He was a member of Riverhead Moose Lodge.
Predeceased by his wife, Mary (née Boden) July 6, 1999; his daughter Eileen Lessard in 1990; his son Edward in 1979 and a daughter-in-law, Mr. Darrow is survived by his sons William of Yaphank and Frank of Calverton; his daughter, Shirley Lewin; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family received visitors Feb. 27 at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead, with a graveside service following at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church Cemetery in Riverhead.
