Riverside man flees from police; charged with damaging cars

A Riverside man was arrested Monday after fleeing from police and charged with damaging cars at a Riverhead automotive shop last month, according to a Southampton Town police press release.

Kirk Alfaro, 46, was found speeding on Old Quogue Road at around 9 p.m. and fled with his lights off after police attempted to pull him over, officials said.

The short pursuit ended at Riverwood Trailer Park, police said.

Mr. Alfaro was charged with unlawful fleeing a police officer and reckless driving, both misdemeanors, as well as fourteen other traffic violations, officials said.

He was also charged with second-degree criminal mischief, a felony, in connection with a report made last month about “several thousand dollars worth of damage” caused to a building and vehicles parked for repair at an automotive business in Riverhead, the release states.

Mr. Alfaro was arraigned in Southampton Justice Court and remanded to Suffolk County Jail in Riverhead.

In February 2012, Mr. Alfaro was arrested for swiping a bundle of electronic equipment from the Route 58 Target store the previous year, Riverhead Town police said.
