Flanders News: Inaugural 5K run set for March 22

Well, friends and neighbors, it’s finally March. Although February is the shortest month, I find it to be the longest in terms of cold weather. The only consolation is that spring is just 15 days away! Let’s hope that it actually starts on or near March 20 and that we warm up soon.

Please join the Flanders, Riverside and Northampton Community Association on Sunday, March 22, at its inaugural FRNCA 5K Scholarship Run/Walk at Hampton Hills Golf and Country Club. Preregistration is $20 per person; $30 on race day. Check-in and registration will be held between 8 and 9:30 a.m.; race begins at 10 a.m. All proceeds will go toward a scholarship to be awarded to a graduating senior or college student residing in one of the three hamlets. To support this great program, get some exercise and meet some new people, visit frnca.org to download an application. Mail to P.O. Box 602, Flanders, NY 11901. You can also sign up at itsyourrace.com.

Nicole Lennon left for U.S. Coast Guard boot camp in Cape May, N.J., Feb. 10 after being delayed a week due to bad weather. She will be away for eight weeks and is scheduled to graduate April 3. Her dad, her sister, Kim, and all her family and friends wish her the best of luck. They are all very proud of her. Semper Paratus!

Happy birthday to Theresa Flynn, who celebrates March 7, from your daughter, Victoria. Hope you have a great day.

Happy birthday to Kevin Zebroski on March 8; Brenda Flood Childress, March 9; Maryann Matlak, March 11; Andrea Conforti, March 12; Tracey Randel, Dan Watts and Christine Lennon, March 14; Jason Kwasna and Lenny Rempe, March 15; Maureen Karpolivsky and Theresa Curry, March 17; and Kevin Podlas, March 18. I hope everyone enjoys their special day!

As I write this I’m wishing this week goes fast. My daughter will be home from college March 6-15. I miss her so much while she’s away. Although Oneonta is only five hours away and she was home for a short weekend Feb. 14, it feels like I haven’t seen her in years.

Until next time, I hope you have a great two weeks. I hope to hear from you soon with any news you’d like to share with the community. Remember, please be safe while driving on our roads. Take care and see you around the neighborhood.
