Eleanor M. Walter

Eleanor Margaret Walter of Ridge died March 13, 2015. She was 85.

She was born Nov. 3, 1929, in New York City to Katherine (Junge) and John Gebhardt and graduated from Newtown High School in Queens. She married Heinz Walter on June 30, 1951, and worked as a secretary at Allied Can.

Eleanor had a green thumb and was an avid gardener, wild-bird enthusiast and nature lover. She was predeceased by her husband, Heinz, on July 8, 2001.

A loving mother, Eleanor is survived by her son Richard Walter and his wife, Barbara, of Paterson, N.J.; her son William Walter and his wife, Susan, of Wading River; and her daughter, Lenore Rizzo, and her husband, Charles, of Holbrook. She was the beloved grandmother of Jonathan and Ryan Walter, Jessica Burns and Carlee and C.J. Rizzo and the proud great-grandmother of Emily Margaret Walter.

Funeral services were private.
