Three people were taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries following a two-car accident on Route 58 in Riverhead Tuesday afternoon, Riverhead Town police said.

The driver of a Mercedes was driving westbound on Route 58 and attempted to make a left on Gatewood Drive near P.C. Richards. The Mercedes collided with a Hyundai that was headed eastbound.

Two people in the Mercedes and the driver of the Hyundai were all taken to PBMC, according to Riverhead police officer Dennis Cavanagh.

The accident occurred just before noon, backing up traffic for about 1/2 hour before the roads were cleared.
