Flanders News: Craft sale and flea market coming to Big Duck

Hello, friends and neighbors. Welcome to spring. Finally! I’m so excited to be over that February madness. It was just too cold and snowy this year. I don’t think I’d mind it around Christmas because it’s supposed to snow then — at least that’s what all the songs and movies say. Anyway, it’s time to dust off the body and get out and move. Just make sure you wear bright reflective clothing if you’re going to walk or run on our area roads. It’s very hard to see people who are wearing dark-colored clothing.

The Friends of the Big Duck will hold their annual craft sale and flea market this year on Memorial Day weekend, Saturday, May 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please note: the rain date is the next day, Sunday, May 24, at the same time. Vendors are needed for this event. The cost for a 10×10-foot space is $50. The cost for food vendors will be $100. They are looking for general food vendors and an ice cream vendor. Space is limited, so please make your reservation as soon as possible by calling 631-727-0593. Reservations close May 15. Admission to the fair is free to the public.

Sorry for the late notice but I just received this. The Town of Southampton Youth Bureau will hold a second round of auditions tonight, Thursday, March 19, for its annual Hamptons Got Talent competition. Tonight’s auditions are from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at Southampton Town Hall. Any student in grades 5 through 12 residing in the Township of Southampton is eligible to audition to showcase any of the following talents: singing, dancing, instruments, comedy, magic or poetry. Contestants must bring to the audition any music they plan to perform to without vocals. Finalists selected will perform at the Hamptons Got Talent competition on Saturday, April 18, from 7 to 10 p.m. For additional audition information, please call the Youth Bureau at 631-702-2425 or on the web at southamptontownny.gov/youthbureau.

Happy birthday to Jean Heimroth on March 21 and to Barry Cain Sr. on March 22 from family and friends. Tracey Grattan also celebrates on the 22nd. Laurie Gallo has her day on March 25 and Randy Gordon on March 27. Kathy Kruel celebrates March 28 and Sean O’Neill and Sandi Lopez on March 29. I hope everyone spends their special day doing whatever it is that makes them happy.

That’s all for this week. If I’ve forgotten anyone please let me know. I had a pretty busy week with my daughter home for spring break so I sort of/kind of forgot I had a column due. Please be safe and please do not text and drive. Thanks for reading and please call or email me with any news you’d like to share.
