As snow began to fall across the North Fork this afternoon, Riverhead Town Supervisor Sean Walter declared a Winter Storm Emergency, urging residents to use caution when driving on slick roads.

Residents are asked to remove vehicles from the street to allow plows to operate easier. According to a release, police are authorized to impound parked or abandoned vehicles that affect the roadways during a snowstorm. The ban is in effect from 8 p.m. through 6 a.m.

Anywhere from three to six inches of snow is expected to fall, according to the National Weather Service, which issued a winter weather advisory until 2 a.m. Saturday.
