Calverton News: Hogs & Hot Rods Rock the Shelter at Splish Splash

Just when you thought you could put away the snow shovel, poof! — more snow arrives. Wouldn’t it be cool if we had a white Easter? Don’t color the eggs, just put them in the snow. How challenging would that be?

I’d like to welcome a new little boy to River Road. Tanner Richard Scott entered the world March 11 weighing 7 pounds, 2 ounces, and measuring 19.5 inches. He’s completely adorable! His mom, Trish Yakaboski, and dad, Lloyd Scott, couldn’t be prouder. Tanner has two big brothers, DJ and Colby. We are thrilled for all of you. Enjoy that precious baby. Congratulations!

Congrats to Riverhead resident Mike Drozd, who coaches the East Islip boys track team. His high-jumper took first place and is the New York State champ.

The Riverhead Rotary Club held its annual spaghetti dinner and it was awesome as usual. I actually helped them out the day before and met some awesome people. A great job was done by everyone. I can’t wait till next year!

Here’s an awesome event for you to attend. On Sunday, April 12, from noon to 5 p.m., there will be a huge yard sale/craft sale/swap meet at Splish Splash Water Park in Calverton to benefit Riverhead Move the Animal Shelter (RMTAS). The fourth annual event, called “Hogs & Hot Rods Rock the Shelter,” will also include a car and motorcycle show! The cost to enter your car or motorcycle is $10, driver only ($5 each additional person). Prizes will be awarded. Visit RMTAS.org for more information. There will also be food vendors, music, raffles, and more. Rain or shine, come on down! General public admission is $5.

The unveiling of the anti-bullying mural at Riley Avenue Elementary School, scheduled for today, March 26, has been postponed. The event will be rescheduled at a future date.

Happy birthday to Cheryl Smith of Manorville on March 15; my nephew Kevin Pelis, March 18; and Sue Czerepinski of Manorville, April 3. I hope everyone had/has a great, happy day!

That’s all for this week. Take care, be safe and I shall talk to you soon. Bye.
