Health Beat: East End Garden Festival set for May 7-10

• The 20th annual East End Garden Festival to benefit Peconic Bay Medical Center will take place Thursday-Saturday, May 7-9, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, May 10, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Tanger Outlets in Riverhead, the PBMC Campus in Manorville and on the Great Lawn in Westhampton Beach. 

Vouchers for plants and other festival merchandise may be purchased for $10 each until May 6. Each voucher can be exchanged for $15 worth of goods.

A garden festival raffle will also be held with prizes including a pair of Raleigh bicycles, a Weber gas grill, a 40-inch TV and a garden utility wagon. Raffle tickets are $5 each or five for $20 and cannot be paid for with festival vouchers. The raffle drawing will be held May 15.

• On Saturday, April 18, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Riverhead Free Library will host a discussion of news on nutrition for people treated for cancer led by nutrition counselor Donald Garrity of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Topics will include scientifically-based recommendations, pros and cons of over-the-counter supplements and interactions between medications and herbs. Seating is limited; call 631-725-4646 to reserve. The event is sponsored by Fighting Chance and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
