Margaret Bell Flattery

Former Riverhead and Moriches resident Margaret Bell Flattery of New Canaan, Conn. died April 19. 

She was born Oct. 6, 1928, in Riverhead to Ulick and Winifred Bell.

Ms. Flattery graduated from The College of Mount St Vincent in Riverdale, N.Y. in 1950 with a baccalaureate degree in nursing. She later received a master of science in administration and supervision from Long Island University.

Ms. Flattery worked as a nursing supervisor and instructor at Southampton Hospital in Southampton until her marriage in 1955. She returned to nursing in 1968 as an instructor of licensed practical nurses, and later an administrator at Harry B. Ward Technical and Academic Center, part of Board of Cooperative Educational Services in Riverhead. She retired from that position in 1993 and enjoyed many years of world travel, and according to her estimate, visited 86 countries.

She was predeceased by her husband, John Flattery, DDS. and  is survived by her four children, Michael of Redlands, Calif., Maureen of Richmond, Va., Kathleen Abrams of Wilmington, N.C. and Meghan Allen of New Canaan, Conn. as well as five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family received visitors April 24 at Hoyt Funeral Home in New Canaan.  A Mass of Christian Burial was held April 25 at St. Aloysius Church in New Canaan.
