Lane closures planned for LIE in Riverhead this weekend

The Long Island Expressway will be partially closed due to construction in Riverhead the weekend, according to the New York State Department of Transportation.

The closures will be between exits 70 and 71, where traffic in both directions will be reduced to a single lane.  The shutdown will start at 10 p.m. Friday, May 1, and end at 5 a.m. Monday, May 4.

The lane closures are needed to perform major repairs to the Halsey Manor Road Bridge over the LIE, which was struck by a truck, according to the state DOT.

“Motorists are urged to use alternate routes or they will experience delays,” the state DOT wrote in a statement. “To minimize the impact on motorists, these off-season weekend days were chosen since traffic volumes are lower.”
