HaroldGoodaleHarold E. Goodale, one of the co-founders of Riverhead Building Supply, died Thursday at the age of 92.

Mr. Goodale founded the company in 1948 along with his brother, Jesse Goodale II, and his uncle, Peter Ketcham, on Ostrander Avenue.

The Goodales had been a farming family up until then and originally planned to farm the Ostrander Avenue site before deciding instead to build a hardware store there.

That store later blossomed into Riverhead Building Supply, which now has 11 locations on Long Island and Rhode Island and is one of the area’s biggest employers and most charitable companies.

Harold’s brother Jesse died on Dec. 20, 2014.

A wake for Mr. Goodale will be at Tuthill Funeral home in Riverhead on Monday from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00pm. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Old Steeple Church on Main Road in Aquebogue.

A full obituary will appear later.
