The East End Women’s Network selected Melanie McEvoy of Laurel as its 2015 Woman of the Year.

Ms. McEvoy has served on the EEWN Board of Directors for the last three years, is the vice president of the North Fork Breast Health Coalition and recently worked as the event chair of the Pink Pearl Gala, which raised nearly $50,000 to benefit breast-cancer patients and survivors on the North Fork.

Susan Ruffini, the president of the health coalition, said in a statement that Ms. McEvoy has enriched the organization.

“Her tireless, professional and compassionate nature has provided our coalition with the means to continue to provide financial, emotional and physical support for women and men who have been diagnosed with breast cancer on the East End,” Ms. Ruffini said.

Gia Heeg of Mattituck nominated Ms. McEvoy for the honor, a tradition that dates back three decades.

“As a former recipient of NFBHC services, Melanie McEvoy understands the value of community support for breast-cancer patients, which is why she dedicates her time and talents to the cause,” Ms. Heeg said in a statement.

Ms. McEvoy was chosen as this year’s winner by a members vote April 22. She will be formally honored May 19 at the “Woman-of-the-Year-Member Mixer” at Pace’s Dockside Restaurant in Mattituck. The event is from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and it is open to the public. For information on tickets, visit eewn.org.

Ms. McEvoy is also a small business owner, running one of the most sought after fundraising and event planning businesses for non-profit organizations in New York City, Ms. Heeg said.

The annual winners of the EEWN award are women who “exhibited solid leadership responsibilities, commitment to her goals and achievements in her professional life, as well as personal character and service to her community and her colleagues,” according to a press release.
