Cops: Two arrests, one suspect missing after Riverside mugging

Two Riverside men were arrested Sunday and charged with assaulting another Riverside man last week after luring the victim out of his home with a loud noise, according to Southampton Town police. 

Luis Cancel, 26, and 31-year-old Jesus Cancel were allegedly outside the victim’s home on Flanders Road with another man on April 26, police said. They were both charged with second-degree assault with intent to cause serious injury third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and criminal mischief, officials said.

The victim claimed he heard a loud bang at around 10:30 p.m. and was jumped by three men and hit on the head with a large wooden stick when he left his home to find out what the noise was, officials said.

The victim had multiple cuts on his face, head and neck and was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of his injuries, police said.

Both defendants were released on $1,000 bail.

The other other suspect has not been arrested, officials said.
