Marie W. Remer of Shelby Township, Mich. passed away April 12, 2015. 

Marie grew up on the family potato farm (est. 1661), located on the East End of Long Island. It is there she met Maynard Remer who was stationed on Long Island during World War II. She graduated from Russell Sage College in Troy, N.Y. and taught home economics for Rochester High School in Rochester, Mich.

Marie guided countless school groups through Remer’s Woods for nature walks. She was a member of Macomb Audubon Society, The Michigan Nature Association and Hallockville Museum Farm. She was an active lifetime member of the Congregational Church.

Marie worked with Michigan State University Cooperative Extension as a 4-H youth agent, creating programs for special needs youth. She was also invited to Belize to work with youth programs.

Marie was the loving wife of the late Maynard and beloved mother of Deborah J. Remer and William H. (Donna) Remer. Marie is also survived by her grandchildren John Abernathy, Margaret Farenger, Mark Abernathy; great grandchildren Dylan Farenger, Daniel Wood, James Thomas Abernathy, and Ella Abernathy and by her brother, Vernon F. Wells.

A funeral service was held April 16 at First Congregational of Rochester in Michigan with burial at Utica Cemetery in Shelby Charter Township, Mich.
