CLASS A SEMIFINALS, GAME 1  |  KNIGHTS 1, WILDCATS 0

After opening the playoffs with a win at Westhampton Wednesday, Shoreham-Wading River coach Kevin Willi wasn’t ready to publicly commit to which pitcher would throw Game 1 of the best-of-three semifinals series that started Friday.

He ended up choosing John Montesano and the senior didn’t disappoint.

Montesano threw a gem Friday afternoon in Elwood, but it wasn’t enough in a pitcher’s duel that came down to the final inning. John Glenn scored on a walk-off hit in the bottom of the seventh to win 1-0 and take the first game of the series.

The Wildcats will face an elimination game Saturday in Game 2 back in Shoreham. The game is scheduled for noon.

John Schefer drove in Quinn Ronan for the winning run for the Knights, who are now 4-0 against the Wildcats this season.

Check back tomorrow for a full recap from Game 2.
