John Beacorn

Former longtime Riverhead resident John Beacorn, formerly a resident of North Bellmore and Little Falls, N.Y., died May 26 at Oak Hollow Nursing Home in Middle Island. He was 91.

Mr. Beacorn was born in Lynbrook Nov. 19, 1923, to Mary (Honeyman) and Daniel Beacorn. He married Jean (née Swartz) Aug. 2, 1947, at St. Joseph R.C. Church in Garden City.

Mr. Beacorn attended Hewlett High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1945, achieving the rank of staff sergeant. He was a member of the 452nd Bombardment Group, 731st Squadron.

In 1989, Mr. Beacorn retired from Ambac Industries, where he worked on contracts.

Family members said he was a “self-taught Mr. Fix-It,” and a history buff who enjoyed antique cars and old coins.

Predeceased by his brother, Daniel, Mr. Beacorn is survived by his wife, of Riverhead; his daughters, Anne Annable of Chaplin, Conn., Kathryn Pietronuto of Selden, N.Y., and Mary Urso of Effort, Pa.; his sons, John, of Ilion, N.Y., Patrick, of Fredericksburg, Va., and Thomas, of Watkinsville, Ga.; his sister, Mary Weidner of Huntington; 26 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The family received visitors May 28 at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral service took place May 29 at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Riverhead. Interment followed at Calverton National Cemetery.
