A driver barreled through a row of potted plants at a Main Road nursery in Aquebogue Saturday morning before crashing into a tree and flipping his SUV, Riverhead Town police said.

The man walked away with only a cut on his hand, police said. No one else was hurt in the crash, said Sgt. Thomas Lessard.

The driver — whom police did not identify — was headed west on Main Road about 11:35 a.m. when he swerved off the road and into a selection of potted plants at the Wells Homestead stand.

“I saw it jump the curb and then the back end came around,” said farmstand employee Janelle Carey. “All you saw was dust.”

The SUV then drove along the curb until it hit a tree and tipped onto its side. Sgt. Lessard said police haven’t determined the cause of the crash; no arrests have been made.

The driver was treated on scene by Riverhead ambulance volunteers for minor injuries.

Seventeen plants were destroyed at the nursery, along with two larger pots. Employees spent the early part of Saturday afternoon cleaning up the mess.
