Woman arrested following rollover crash on East Main Street

The driver of an SUV was arrested for driving without a license and leaving the scene of an accident following a two-car collision with a taxi Saturday night, Riverhead Town police said.

Judith Hettrick, 53, of Riverhead was headed westbound on East Main Street and attempting to make a lefthand turn onto Howell Lane, when the driver of the taxi crossed the double yellow lines to make a left-hand pass, according to a police press release.

Ms. Hettrick’s SUV struck the cab, causing it to rollover. She then attempted to flee the scene of the crash, but was located soon after on East Main Street.

image013An investigation revealed that Ms. Hettrick was driving with a suspended license and registration, police said. She was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, driving with a suspended registration and leaving the scene of an accident with injury.

The driver of the taxi, Marcus Booker, 23, of Mastic was rushed by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance to Stony Brook University Medical Center for treatment of injuries police believed to be serious.

He was cited for  passing on the left, police said.
