Joseph P. Pelis

Joseph P. Pelis of Riverhead died May 31 after a long illness. He was 74. 

Mr Pelis was born April 27, 1941, in Riverhead to Stella (Tyska) and Joseph Pelis. He married Barbara (née Willer) Aug. 13, 1961.

Mr. Pelis worked as a service manager for Buzz Chew Autogroup in Southampton.

Family members said he enjoyed auto racing, farming and NASCAR.

Mr. Pelis is survived by his wife, Barbara; his children, Dawn Jasinski of Flanders and Debra Clifford and Donna Polak, both of Riverhead; his siblings, Mitchell Sobczyk of Southampton and Cindy Yakaboski of Riverhead; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors Wednesday, June 3, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead, where a service will be held at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at St. Isidore R.C. Church Cemetery in Riverhead.
