Edward Benko of Riverhead died June 11 at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. He was 92.
He was born Dec. 31, 1922, in Manhattan to Anna (Kos) and Edward Benko.
Mr. Benko served in the U.S. Marine Corps for three years, achieving the rank of sergeant. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He worked as a mechanic for Suffolk Product Packaging in Riverhead.
Family members said he enjoyed bowling and softball.
Mr. Benko was predeceased by his wife Emily, whom he married Sept. 19, 1949, in Riverhead. He is survived by his children, Sharon, Edward and Patricia Benko and Debra Pulcano; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family received visitors June 14 at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral service was held June 15 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Riverhead. Interment took place at the church cemetery.
