Police: Seven kids home at time of felony drug raid

A Riverhead man was arrested Tuesday morning at his house for possession of heroin and marijuana, according to Riverhead Police.

At 7:06 a.m., officers from the East End Drug Task Force, in cooperation with Riverhead Town Police, arrested William Moore, 32, at 28 Oakland Drive North in Riverhead after an investigation into drug sales at the residence.

Inside the home, officers found unspecified quantities of heroin and marijuana as well as scales, packaging materials and cash, according to a police press release. They also removed two shotguns from the property for safety and further investigation, but no charges were filed immediately related to the weapons.

Seven children, ranging from ages two to 15, were in the home when officers executed a search warrant and arrest Mr. Moore.

Mr. Moore faces two felony counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, three felony counts of second-degree criminal use of drug paraphernalia and six misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

He will be held overnight in Riverhead until he is arraigned in Riverhead Justice Court.
